A great staple! Use it on pizza, for stuffed pasta or lasagna roll-ups. It's also a great opportunity to teach kids about how plants grow, to discuss the parts of a tomato (stem, skin, seeds, flesh), and to compare and contrast fresh vs. dried spices.

WHAT YOU NEED

28 oz. canned tomatoes (whole)
6 oz. tomato paste
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried (or fresh) oregano
1 teaspoon dried (or fresh) basil
3/4 teaspoon salt
sealable, plastic bags

HOW TO MAKE IT

1. Open canned tomatoes and tomato paste.

2. Put a few whole tomatoes in a plastic bag, remove air, seal it tight and squish. Keep squish squashing until the tomatoes become a pulp. Repeat until all tomatoes are squashed.

3. Empty into large bowl.

4. Add tomato paste, garlic powder, oregano, basil and salt to the mixture.

5. Stir it up! Taste and adjust spices as desired.

6. For pizza, spread sauce on prepared crust. For pasta, pour sauce into a pot and simmer on stove for 45-60 minutes. Stir often.
